Nestled on an acre of woody, sloped landscape, this Portola Valley project involved the expansion of an existing single family residence and the addition of a separate guest house. The site of the guest house was sensitively located to minimalize disruptions to the existing treescape, while the proximity to the existing main house maintained a relationship and ease of access. Landscaped pathways extending between the two structures further this link. Although the modern addition is distinctly juxtaposed against the more traditional gable roofed main house, a shared material palette of warm wood tones and the vertical treatment of the facade compliment and unite the two.
