Though nestled amongst the scenic Emerald Hills, the 80-year-old house of the Aronica family was devoid of much of the charm of its setting. Cobbled together and haphazardly “improved” without method, the exterior and interior renovations of the residence provide new life to an ailing structure. An exterior ‘re-skinning’ of new windows, doors, skylights, and finishes opens up a new dialogue with its context. Through a thickened ‘rain screen’ wrapper and cantilevered wood soffits, the appearance is dramatically altered as well as providing substantial benefits to the thermal performance of the building. A new master bedroom suite with a taut glass corner capitalizes on its view of the valley below.
